Ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Gazipur-1 constituency—comprising Kaliakair, Konabari, and Basan—has emerged as one of the most discussed and significant constituencies in Gazipur district. As a major industrial hub with a dense population, the constituency is set to go to the polls on 12 February 2026.
Who will become the most suitable guardian of this important constituency? This question has sparked widespread speculation, discussion, and debate among the people of Kaliakair. Electoral activities are in full swing, with candidates making their highest efforts in campaigning, adopting various strategies, and making advance promises to win over voters.
Although there are multiple MP candidates contesting in Gazipur-1, public perception suggests that the main contest will be a close and intense battle between BNP-nominated MP candidate and former mayor Md. Mujibur Rahman, and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami–nominated MP candidate and former DC Md. Shah Alam Bokshi.
In such a highly competitive political environment, a warm, cheerful, lively, and cordial meeting between these rival candidates has drawn significant attention and is being described as truly rare. Many believe this moment may even become a part of political history. Photos and videos of the meeting have already gone viral on Facebook and other online platforms.
Following the circulation of these images and videos, both Md. Mujibur Rahman and Md. Shah Alam Bokshi have been receiving widespread praise. Members of the public from Gazipur and other parts of the country, as well as prominent individuals, are viewing the gesture as a positive sign. Many have commented that this display of mutual respect is genuinely encouraging.
According to public opinion, victory or defeat is not the most important issue; rather, such cordial behavior and respectful relationships among political rivals can play a responsible and constructive role in the country’s overall development.
