On 21st February, National Martyrs’ Day was observed in Damurhuda, Chuadanga, in remembrance of the martyrs of the Language Movement.
On this day in 1952, students sacrificed their lives demanding that Bangla be recognized as a state language. Every year, the day is observed by placing floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar to honor their memory.
From the very first hours of 21st February, people from all walks of life gathered at the Damurhuda Upazila Shaheed Minar and paid their respects by laying flowers.
Among those present were the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Sahedur Rahman Sahel, the Officer-in-Charge of Damurhuda Police Station, leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its affiliated organizations, various social organizations, and members of the general public.
February 21 is not just a day of remembrance; it symbolizes our linguistic rights and national unity.
In addition, in 1999, UNESCO declared 21st February as International Mother Language Day. The day stands as a profound symbol of respect for our language, culture, and nation.
