To keep the prices of essential commodities under control during the holy month of Ramadan, a mobile court conducted a market monitoring drive in Darshana, under Chuadanga.
The operation was carried out on Thursday (February 26) at around 2:00 PM in the Darshana Rail Bazaar area, where several shops and unauthorized vehicles were inspected.
The drive was led by Assistant Commissioners and Executive Magistrates Md. Ashfakur Rahman and Abdullah Al Naim from the District Administration Office.
According to mobile court sources, during the operation, three shop owners were fined under various sections of the Consumer Rights Protection Act for failing to properly display price lists and for selling certain products at higher-than-approved prices.
Master Fast Food Corner was fined BDT 2,000 for irregularities.
Monir Chicken Shop was fined BDT 1,000.
Md. Zainal Grocery Shop was fined BDT 1,000.
A total of BDT 4,000 was collected in fines from three separate cases.
During the operation, at least 10 more shops were inspected. Both buyers and sellers were advised to ensure fair pricing and to display price lists visibly. Leaders of the local shop ownersâ association were also warned to maintain compliance.
Executive Magistrate Md. Ashfakur Rahman stated that mobile courts are being conducted regularly across different markets in the district throughout Ramadan. The administration will continue strict monitoring to prevent dishonest business practices.
The district administration has affirmed that stricter measures will be taken if necessary to ensure a stable supply and fair pricing of essential goods in the market. The drives will continue.
