Notun kalom Desk: In Char Shaulmari area of Kurigram District under Roumari Upazila, 14 families have reportedly returned to Islam following recent discussions surrounding religious conversion in the locality.
According to local resident Md. Mizanur Rahman Mizan, several days of continuous efforts were made to communicate with the families. “After days of discussion and counseling, we were able to help them understand, and they decided to return to Islam,” he said. He also expressed gratitude to the head of the Dawati delegation, Firdaus Hasan Kurigrami, for his support.
Firdaus Hasan Kurigrami stated that individuals associated with Christian missionary activities had allegedly distributed radios containing messages about Jesus Christ among approximately 70 families in the area. He claimed that attempts were made to encourage conversion to Christianity by offering food, clothing, and housing assistance. As a result, 14 families had accepted Christianity, reportedly without fully understanding the implications.
He further said that through discussions and cooperation with local residents, they were able to explain their perspective, after which the families voluntarily chose to return to Islam.
However, representatives of the accused missionary group could not be reached for comment. No official statement has yet been issued by local authorities.
Local sources say the situation in the area is currently calm, and community leaders have called for maintaining religious harmony.
