Serious allegations have been raised against Masud Palash, the Upazila Agriculture Officer of Alamdanga, Chuadanga, accusing him of embezzlement of government funds, abuse of power, and repeatedly shifting political affiliations to maintain his position.
Masud Palash, a 32nd BCS (Freedom Fighter quota) cadre officer, is alleged to have put Alamdangaâs agricultural sector and farmersâ production at severe risk due to corruption and administrative irregularities.
Previous Allegations in Jhikargacha, Jashore
Investigations reveal that while serving in Jhikargacha, Jashore, a written complaint was filed against him by farmer Imdadul Haque. A departmental inquiry was conducted by the then Deputy Director (Jashore), which reportedly uncovered serious irregularities.
Embezzlement in Mushroom Project:
It is alleged that he misappropriated Tk 334,465 allocated for mushroom cultivation. Instead of distributing the funds among farmers, the money was withdrawn through a cheque issued in the name of a company called âMessrs Bangla Enterprise,â and the entire amount was allegedly embezzled.
Irregularities in Model Union Project:
In the 2023â24 fiscal year, Tk 500,000 was allocated under the Safe Crop Production Project. However, only Tk 42,000 was reportedly shown as expenditure, with the remaining amount allegedly misappropriated. The investigation also revealed his absence from weekly meetings and the non-existence of exhibitions that were supposed to be implemented under revenue financing.
Political Shift and Alleged Illegal Wealth
There are allegations that during the tenure of the Awami League government, he enjoyed close connections and was transferred to the Jhenaidah Seed Certification Agency as a beneficiary of political influence.
Following the political change on August 5, he allegedly introduced himself overnight as a Jamaat activist and secured his posting in Alamdanga through recommendations. Currently, he is reportedly trying to present himself as being close to the ruling BNP.
Sources further claim that he owns land worth crores of taka near Jashore Airport and possesses a luxury vehicle. Questions have been raised about the source of such vast wealth for a government official, although he has consistently denied the allegations.
Alamdangaâs Agricultural Sector at Risk
Since his joining in Alamdanga, instability in the fertilizer market has reportedly intensified. Farmers allege that due to the absence of effective monitoring by the Agriculture Office, dealer syndicates have increased fertilizer prices, leaving ordinary farmers in distress.
Local farmers complain that instead of conducting field-level supervision, the Agriculture Officer remains focused on personal interests, resulting in disruption of agricultural production.
Despite the alleged confirmation of corruption during his tenure in Jashore, questions remain as to why strict action was not taken against him and why he was instead appointed to another important post. Farmers and conscious citizens of the area have demanded his removal and a proper investigation into his alleged illegal assets.
