Mostafizur Rahman Mostak, the parliamentary candidate for Kurigram-4 (RoumariâRajibpur) constituency, held a dialogue session with journalists from Roumari and Rajibpur on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at 11:30 am at the auditorium of Mohammadia Hospital and Diagnostic Center in Jadurchor Union, Roumari Upazila. Nearly fifty journalists from print and electronic media attended the session.
Addressing the journalists, Mostak said, âJournalists play an indispensable role in protecting democracy, ensuring law and order, and safeguarding peopleâs voting rights. No terrorist group or political faction can undermine the electoral process or popular movements if your pen is strong and principled.â
He emphasized that journalism should not serve individual or party interests but should always stand for truth and justice. Journalists must uphold ethics, expose wrongdoing, corruption, and irregularities, and play a strong role in enforcing the rule of law.
Mostak firmly stated, âJamaat-e-Islami is committed to restoring true democracy in the country and establishing an Islamic system of governance. We will not tolerate any form of terrorism, extortion, or drug trafficking. Ensuring the safety of citizens and their property, and building a fair, corruption-free society requires the active cooperation of journalists.â
He further stressed the importance of media independence, saying, âJournalists must be able to report freely and objectively without fear or pressure. Through the media, people will know their rights, the sanctity of their vote, and the responsibility toward justice in society.â
During the session, journalists exchanged views on the importance of the electoral environment in the country and the responsibilities of professional journalism. At the end of the meeting, they pledged, âWe will continue our professional journalistic role to ensure free, fair, and impartial elections. Delivering truthful information to the public is our foremost duty.â
The meeting was chaired by the President of the Roumari Journalists Association. Various journalists from unions, the upazila, and local areas participated, raising questions about the election process, crime prevention, and public safety.
