The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled Advocate Shahid Iqbal Hossain from the party, including his primary membership and his post as President of Manirampur Upazila BNP, for engaging in activities contrary to party discipline, ideology, and principles.
According to party sources, the decision was taken by the BNP Central Committee after allegations against Advocate Shahid Iqbal Hossain were found to be in violation of organizational discipline and detrimental to party unity. As part of the same disciplinary action, several top-level leaders from different divisions across the country have also been expelled from all tiers of the BNP for similar offences.
The expulsion was officially announced through a press release issued on Wednesday (January 21), signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. The statement was circulated on the party’s official letterhead and confirmed by the BNP Central Press and Media Cell.
The press release stated that the BNP, as a democratic and disciplined political organization, maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward actions that undermine party principles, organizational discipline, or collective interests. The Central Committee emphasized that strict organizational measures will continue to be taken against anyone involved in activities that go against party ideology and discipline.
Following the announcement, mixed reactions have been observed among leaders and activists of Manirampur Upazila BNP. While some welcomed the central leadership’s decision as necessary to uphold party discipline, others called for further review and internal discussion.
Party sources also confirmed that the expulsion order has taken immediate effect, and the expelled leaders will not be allowed to participate in any BNP activities until further notice.
